London, United Kingdom (uk.gov.krd)- Every year the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Kurdistan Region leads a fact-finding mission and holds series of meetings with the KRG officials, politicians and civil society to discuss important bilateral issues and strengthen partnerships in many areas.
Even though the APPG’s planned visit to the Kurdistan Region was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic this has not stopped the group from supporting the region and undertaking their virtual mission during this unfolding situation. Today, APPG members initiated their first meeting with Professor Dlawer Ala’Aldeen, the Founding President of the Middle East Research Institute, and Former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Regional Government (2009-2012). The meeting was attended by the KRG High Representative to the UK, Karwan Jamal Tahir, the Chair of APPG on Kurdistan Region, Rt Robert Halfon MP, Alicia Kearns MP, the APPG Secretary Gary Kent and Khasro Ajgayi, Director of Political Affairs and Media.
The meeting focused on political developments, security related issues, and public health challenges in the Kurdistan Region. It also underscored the long-standing relations between the UK and Kurdistan Region and ways of further extending ties between both sides. The APPG stressed the UK’s commitment to support a strong Kurdistan Region in this endeavour.
The APPG will continue conducting meetings for the forthcoming report in the next following weeks.
