London, United Kingdom, www.uk.gov.krd. The High Representative to the UK, Karwan Jamal Tahir attended the post-show panel discussion for the Safe Haven play, organised by the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI), alongside RUSI Director General Rachel Ellehuus, Professor Delawer Aladen, Christina Lamb and Captain Tom Hardy, and chaired by Burcu Ozcelik, the Senior Research Fellow at RUSI.

The panels reflected on Britain’s role in protecting the people of Kurdistan, describing the Safe Haven as a turning point for the Kurds and how the protected space turned into a thriving, flourishing and democratic Kurdistan Region.

The panel also highlighted the diaspora's role and its influence on decision-makers.

The evidence-based play is written by Chris Bowers. HMG’s former Consul General to the Kurdistan Region reflects on the events of 1991, when nearly two million Kurds who had escaped into the freezing mountains to flee Saddam’s helicopter gunships faced starvation, and many froze to death. The tenacity of British officials, coupled with lobbying by the Kurdish diaspora, saved thousands of lives.
