14 February 2026, London, www.uk.gov.krd. Karwan Jamal Tahir, the KRG High Representative to the UK, participated in the PeaceRep Iraq Final Conference, titled “Reframing Iraq: Power, Politics, and Paths to Inclusion,” organised by PeaceRep Iraq in partnership with the LSE Middle East Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). The conference brought together policymakers, diplomats, and academics to examine Iraq’s political trajectory and explore pathways toward inclusive and sustainable peace.

Discussions throughout the day addressed the durability of Iraq’s post-2003 political order, governance reform, pressures on key systems such as education and natural resource management, and Iraq’s role within a shifting regional landscape. Particular focus was placed on bridging the gap between research and policymaking to support inclusive peacebuilding and long-term institutional resilience.

During his participation in the closing panel, Mr. Jamal Tahir highlighted the role of research institutions in peacebuilding. He emphasised that for research to have a meaningful impact on the peace process, institutions must remain independent, neutral, non-partisan, and transparent, with no sign of lobbying for political views, in order to demonstrate credibility and effectiveness.

The conference concluded with a renewed emphasis on fostering research–policy partnerships to support inclusive, accountable, and resilient governance in Iraq.
