This year the Conservative Party Conference was held in Manchester to set out the party’s vision for the UK after Brexit. The conference gathered more than 11,550 delegates, among them were government officials, MPs, Cabinet Ministers, representatives of the leading charities, media and business as well as the diplomatic corps. The Kurdistan Regional Government was represented by the KRG High Representative to the UK, Mr Karwan Jamal Tahir.
Throughout the conference, Mr Karwan participated at key events related to Post-Brexit cooperation with centre-right parties of the world, Head of Mission’s Reception, and Leadership speech. Mr Tahir also had the opportunity to meet the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper PC, 22nd Prime Minister of Canada and Chairman of the International Democrat Union (IDU), the Rt. Hon. Chris Pincher MP, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, Nadhim Zahawi MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State , Minister for Business and Industry, the Rt. Hon. Alec Shelbrooke MP, Vice Chairman (International) of the Conservative Party. Mr Tahir highlighted the KRG’s strong ties with the UK across business, education, security and shared commitment to the core values of democracy. The government officials welcomed the constructive dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad and restated the UK’s commitments to further progress the bilateral engagement with the Kurdistan Region.
