Minister Safeen Muhsin Dizayee meets with FCDO officials

Minister Safeen Muhsin Dizayee, Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Department of Foreign Relations, and Karwan Jamal Taher, the KRG’s High Representative to the United Kingdom, met on Wednesday with senior officials from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The delegation was received by Rob Dixon, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department, and David Hunt, Head of the Iraq, Syria and Yemen Department.

Talks focused on political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region, including ongoing challenges facing the Iraq and the federal government. Both sides discussed the formation of Iraq’s new federal cabinet, as well as outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad, particularly concerning constitutional rights and financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting also addressed the broader regional security environment and the impact of ongoing crises. Officials expressed concern over continued drone attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region and stressed the need for enhanced coordination between the United Kingdom and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of sustained UK support for the Kurdistan Region and emphasized continued cooperation to promote stability across the region.
