London, United Kingdom (uk.gov.krd) The Kurdistan Regional Government High Representative to the United Kingdom, Mr Karwan Jamal Tahir held a virtual meeting with the Iraq Team at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). It was attended by Laura Dix, the Head of Iraq Team, Olivia Murphy, Desk Officer, Iraq Team- Regional, Economics and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and SeunOnabolu, Desk Officer, Iraq Team at FCDO.
Topics discussed included the importance of collaboration in the areas of defence, security, trade and culture. High Representative Karwanextended congratulations to Laura Dix on her new appointment as the Head of Iraq Team at the FCDO, he said: “We look forward to further strengthening our enduring relations with the FCDO and build on the progress and prosperity we have made on many fronts.” He highlighted the successful official visit by both the UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, the Rt Hon James Cleverly, and UK Minister of State for the Armed Forces, James Heappey. High Representative Karwan stated that this visit underscored the significance of the UK-Kurdistan Region partnership from coordination on security to deepening trade links.
High Representative Karwan also addressed mutual challenges and underlined the FCDO’s key role in supporting dialogue between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq to reach agreements on the remaining issues, including Kurdistan’s share of the Federal budget, oil and revenue sharing and the status of disputed territories in line with Iraqi Constitution.
The FCDO Iraq Team set out the agenda of UK’s commitment in growing ties with the international partners, including the Kurdistan Region. The meeting also debated shared priorities and also plans for moving forward.
