London, United Kingdom (uk.gov.krd), The Kurdistan Regional Government High Representative to the United Kingdom, Mr Karwan Jamal Tahir took part in a Webinar on Security Hot Spots and Peace in the MENA Region hosted by Global Diplomatic Forum as part of our Middle East and North Africa Month.
High Representative Karwan along with panelists including Fabian Hamilton MP, Shadow Minister for Peace and Disarmament, Jonathan Paris, Senior Advisor to the Chertoff Group, and Daniel Levy, president of the US / Middle East Project. The speakers addressed questions related to the security issues of the region and potential scenarios that can transform the region.
The webinar covered a number of trending issues within the region including the Kurdish question. High Representative Karwan explored the historical background of Kurdish question as well as the recent developments, mainly in Iraq. He said: “The Kurdistan Regional Government’s first priority is to improve relations with the federal government in Baghdad based on the provisions of the Iraqi constitution.” He added: “The deterioration in the relationship between Baghdad and Erbil will have dire consequences and will affect the instability. Therefore, Iraq has to solve the Kurdish issue once and for good, including the disputed territories, power-sharing, fair budget allocation and reform.
The Webinar was concluded by debating questions related to the security issues, including the Shi’a – Sunni War, the Kurdish Question, Middle East Peace Process, Civil Wars and Failed States and the Russian as well as the Turkish Role in the Region.
