KRG High Representative Joins Scottish Parliament Event Honouring Kurdish Community

Edinburgh, Scotland , www.uk.gov.krd. Karwan Jamal Tahir, the High
Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the United
Kingdom, participated in a celebratory event organised by Scottish Parliament
Member Bob Doris (MSP) in collaboration with the Kurdish Development Organisation
in Scotland. The gathering, including Kamal Muslim, the KRG Minister of Trade
and Industry, along with several Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs),
representatives from Friends of Kurdistan, and members of the Kurdish diaspora
across Scotland paid tribute to the vibrant Kurdish community’s contributions
to Scottish society.
Addressing the event, Bob Doris MSP commended
the Kurdish community in Scotland for their proactive engagement across various
sectors and underlined the cultural and historical affinities between Scotland
and the Kurdistan Region. He reiterated his steadfast support for the Kurdish
people and their legitimate aspirations, pledging continued recognition of
Kurdistan’s national events within the Scottish Parliament to broaden support
for the Kurdish cause.
Shakhwan Sattar, President of the Kurdish
Development Organisation in Scotland, expressed his appreciation to the
Scottish Parliament and particularly to Bob Doris for their enduring support.
He emphasised the openness of the Scottish Parliament to Kurdish voices and
initiatives, stating, “Today’s event is not just to honour specific organisations, but to
celebrate the community’s meaningful contribution to Scotland’s development.” He also thanked the KRG High Representative for his active engagement with the
diaspora and his ongoing support of their initiatives.
In his remarks, KRG High Representative Karwan
Jamal Tahir extended his gratitude to the Scottish Parliament and the broader
Scottish community for their continued solidarity with the Kurdish diaspora. He
praised the integration and accomplishments of Kurdish civil society groups in
Scotland, highlighting their vital role in fostering mutual understanding and
cooperation.
Minister Kamal Muslim echoed these sentiments,
commending the diaspora and local Kurdish organisations for their efforts in
strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Scotland. He encouraged
Kurdish community members to serve as ambassadors for Kurdistan, promoting its
economic potential and encouraging Scottish businesses to explore investment
opportunities in the region. “Kurdistan offers a welcoming environment for foreign
investors,” he noted, urging entrepreneurs to take advantage of its
strategic opportunities.
The event also featured speeches by several
Kurdish professionals and community leaders who shared their personal stories
of success and integration in Scotland. Their reflections underscored the
Kurdish community’s growing influence and its role as an integral part of
Scotland’s diverse social fabric.
