UK Parliament, UK, www.uk.gov.krd.  – A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government UK Representation participated in a one-day conference held at the British Parliament titled “Turkey, Kurds and the Middle East Today – The road to peace & stability”, organised by the Centre for Kurdish Progress.

The KRG delegation included Khasro Ajgayi, Head of Relations and Development; Hawre Yousef, Head of Trade and Investment; and Stuart Wayne of the KRG Representative Office. The event brought together a broad spectrum of participants including UK parliamentarians, members of the House of Lords, politicians, academics, civil society leaders, and representatives of the Kurdish diaspora from across the four parts of Kurdistan.

A central theme of the conference was the Peace Initiative in Turkish Kurdistan, with discussions focusing on the recent appeal by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to end hostilities. Speakers underscored the urgency of resolving the Kurdish question in Turkey through peaceful dialogue, particularly amid the wider instability facing the Middle East.

DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakirhan highlighted the pivotal role the Kurdistan Region’s political leadership can play in mediating peace. He called on both Turkey and the PKK to seize the opportunity to return to the negotiating table and pursue a lasting political solution. Bakirhan also praised the growing unity among Kurds within the region and throughout the diaspora, noting that such solidarity is essential for achieving lasting peace and recognition of Kurdish rights in Turkey.

The conference also examined the United Kingdom’s potential to support peacebuilding efforts, given its longstanding ties and strategic interests in the Middle East. Attendees collectively emphasised the need for coordinated international support to reinforce peace initiatives and to facilitate meaningful, durable resolutions.
