High Representative Karwan meets with UK Foreign Minister of State for the Middle East

London, United Kingdom (uk.gov.krd)- The Kurdistan Regional Government High Representative to the United Kingdom, Mr Karwan Jamal Tahir visited the Minister of State for the Middle East at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and Minister of State for International Development, the Rt Hon Dr Andrew Murrison and had a productive discussion on areas of bilateral cooperation.

High Representative Karwan thanked the UK government for supporting the Kurdistan Region closely on national development, security, political and humanitarian issues. He highlighted the new phase in Erbil-Baghdad relations which presents a new opportunity for Iraqi government to establish a comprehensive, inclusive and enduring political process. High Representative Karwan said: “the implementation of Iraqi Constitution is a vital first step towards the larger goals of long-lasting political settlement in Iraq.”

Minister Murrison said: “Progress has been very positive in recent years. One of the reasons is the territorial integrity of Iraq and the federated arrangements in line with the Constitution, we will continue to recognise Iraq as a geopolitical entity as laid out in the Constitution and support Kurdistan Region’s part within that.”

The two sides also underscored the importance of developing commercial links between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom. In this regard, Minister Murrison reiterated the UK’s recent arrangements for increasing the UK Export and Finance to support economic developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The Minister added: “We will do everything we can to support the economic vibrancy and prosperity in the Kurdistan Region.”
