The Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Qubad Talabani welcomed the UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and Stephen Hickey, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Iraq.
The meeting addressed the recent developments, relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and the security situation in the region and Iraq. The Deputy Prime Minister underscored the strategic partnership between the two sides and praised the UK’s role in encouraging Erbil and Baghdad to find a peaceful way forward to de-escalate tension, particularly in the distribution of federal revenues.
The Deputy Prime Minister said: “there is a plan for the KRG delegation to visit Baghdad to discuss the deeply concerning situation to reach a long-standing solution.
The meeting also debated further coordination in tourism, cultural and security affairs between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom.
