Dr. Haval Abu Bakir, the Governor of Sulaymaniyah Province visited the Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in the United Kingdom and was welcomed by Mr Karwan Jamal Tahir, the KRG High Representative to the UK.
Mr Tahir outlined the function of the KRG’s mission in the UK in bolstering ties between the United Kingdom and Kurdistan Region on wide arrays of political, economic, security, humanitarian and cultural matters. Mr Tahir stressed the Representation’s efforts in engaging members of Kurdish diaspora to promote the Kurdish cause in the UK and reaffirmed the importance of unity among them.
Dr. Haval praised the role of the Representation in shaping bilateral relations with the United Kingdom. He also shared his insights on the current situation in the Kurdistan Region, highlighting potential partnership opportunities in areas of mutual interest.
The Representation facilitated a briefing at the UK parliament for Dr Haval, hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Kurdistan Region in Iraq, to update members of parliament on political, security, humanitarian, cultural and economic developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He said: “Over the past few years we have made tremendous progress in developing the province of Sulaymaniyah. Kurdistan is secure and stable, that there is great untapped potential in Sulaymaniyah, and our private sector is eager for partnerships and joint ventures with the UK companies in agriculture, tourism and industry.”
The main purpose of the Governor’s visit to the UK is to participate in the annual Iraq Britain Business Council’s Spring Conference along with the Governors of Erbil and Duhok, as well as the President of the Kurdistan Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry.
