High Representative Karwan and Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Iraq, HE Stephen Hickey discuss bilateral cooperation

London, United Kingdom (uk.gov.krd)- The newly appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Iraq, HE Stephen Hickey visited the Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in the United Kingdom and was welcomed by Mr Karwan Jamal Tahir, the KRG’s High Representative to the UK.

On behalf of the Kurdistan Regional Government, High Representative Karwan extended warm wishes to the Ambassador on his new appointment and emphasized on working together to support the strong strategic partnership between the two sides to promote peace, security, and prosperity in the wider region.

Mr Tahir discussed all aspects of the KRG-UK relations mainly on the security front. He said: “the fight against Daesh have had devastating effect on the people of Kurdistan and Iraq.” The High Representative Tahir appraised the UK’s efforts for providing military support to the Peshmerga forces. With respect to commercial ties, Mr Tahir continued to say “Kurdistan remains to be a stable, pro-business, pro-investment and tolerant region. There also remain immense opportunities for British businesses. The UK is our partner of choice and we very much look forward to assisting you in pursuing those opportunities.”

Ambassador Stephen reiterated the UK’s determination to play its part alongside the international partners to support the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in their long-term visions to build a stable society.
