London, United Kingdom (uk.gov.krd). A delegation from the Kurdistan parliament consisting of Luqman Hamad Haji, Chairman of Municipalities, Transportation and Tourism select committee and Mam Burhan Qanii, member of Culture and Civil Society Select Committee visited the United Kingdom and conducted several meetings.
The delegation was accompanied by Karwan Jamal Taher Kurdistan Regional Government High Representative to the UK and Khasro Ajgayi Director of Political Affairs and Media.
They met the Mayor of Lambeth, Ibrahim Dogus who briefed the delegation on the way Lambeth council operates and cooperation with relevant government departments.
The Kurdistani delegation delegation briefed the Mayor on their work and steps taken to develop municipalities. Both sides discussed how best to benefits of using the expertise of Lambeth borough to improve the capabilities of Kurdistan Municipalities.
The delegation also met Rt. Hon. Robert Halfon MP, and Chairman of UK parliament’s APPG on the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting which was attended by Gary Kent, Secretary of the group. The delegation thanked Mr. Halfon and the group for their continuous support to the Kurdistan Region and strengthening the Kurdistan/UK relationship. They reiterated the importance of cooperation and learning from the expertise of the UK parliament.
Robert Halfon said: “I love Kurdistan and support the rights of the Kurdish nation. Our group will continue its efforts to increase support for the region and to further enhance mutual relations between Kurdistan and the United Kingdom.”
The delegation also met former BBC journalist and media advisor, Professor Barney Jones who outlined how to develop media and journalism in developing countries. He reiterated the importance of creating a reliable media that is trusted by the nation because this would strengthen the position of the government, the country and politicians. He reiterated his readiness to assist Kurdistan media field.
