London, United Kingdom, www.uk.gov.krd. On Wednesday, March 26th, the Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in the UK hosted a reception to celebrate the Kurdish New Year (Nawruz) with members of the Kurdish diaspora in the UK, as well as with UK colleagues, ambassadors, diplomats, and friends of the Kurdistan Region, including those from the UK parliament and civil society.

In his speech, High Representative Karwan Jamal Tahir used the opportunity to thank all of the attendees and draw attention to the strength of UK-Kurd ties, as evidenced by the support for the evening’s event. The High Representative was keen to stress the meaning of Nawruz as a time of celebration, adding, ‘the arrival of Spring—a time of rebirth and renewed hope, embodied by peaceful initiatives emerging on the horizon. May they bring light to the Kurdish cause in these uncertain times.’

John Slinger MP, Chair of the APPG for Kurdistan Region, expressed his love for the Kurdish people he has met during his visits to the region and his appreciation for the way the KRG has dealt with the refugee crisis facing the wider region.

During his speech, Falah Mustafa, Foreign Policy Affairs Assistant to the President of the Kurdistan Region, described his years in the UK as a Chevening Scholar and the chance that education gave him to serve the Kurdistan Region, and how pleased he was to be addressing friends from across UK, officials, diplomats, civil society and the Kurdish diaspora.

The Nawruz event reception also filled with entertainment, including live music, and traditional Kurdish dancing to embody the true spirit of Nawruz.
