KRG UK High Representative met with a number of MSPs

United Kingdom, Scottish Parliament, www.uk.gov.krd. Kurdistan Regional Government High Representative Karwan Jamal Tahir met with several Scottish MPs from various parties in the Scotland.

Bob Dorries, a member of the Scottish Parliament, thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government High Representative for the meeting, and mentioned the ongoing efforts of the Kurdish friends in the Scottish Parliament to defend the Kurds' legitimate cause and reaffirmed their continued support for the goal of enhancing the bilateral relations between Scotland and the Kurdistan Region. He thanked the Kurdistan diaspora for their role and effective participation in Scottish society in all spheres of life, adding, "Today we are here to reiterate our support to Kurdistan people and are ready to discuss our future coordination and support".
Karwan Jamal Tahir expressed gratitude to the Kurdish-friendly lawmakers in the Scottish Parliament for their support and for having consistently brought up the Kurdish people's concerns during parliamentary sessions and informed the lawmakers about the Kurdistan Region's issues.
At the same time, he gave an overview of the Kurdistan Region's political and governance process, including its historical successive phases and ongoing development. “There is no such thing as a perfect solution, and we hope that we can learn from Scotland's experience in this regard.” He added.
He also emphasised the federal process, the fundamental principles of regulating relations according to the constitution, and the similarities of the problems of both sides, particularly the issue of the fair distribution of the nation's public revenue. He stated that the budget and salary of the region's employees have not been solved constitutionally, and in this regard, the KRG would like to learn from Scotland expertise with finding practical ways with Westminster for the fair distribution of the budget.

"We are looking to further strengthen our relations with Scotland in all fields and to increase the level of cooperation between us," the Kurdistan Regional Government High Representative told the Scottish lawmakers during his speech. In order to better serve both nations, he urged the Scottish parliamentarians to establish a parliament’s Cross Party group to support Kurdistan Region similar to the UK parliament’s APPG on Kurdistan region.


Mr Taher also discussed the role and impact of the Kurdistan Diaspora in Scotland, referring to it as the voice of Kurdistan. He reaffirmed their support for all of the Diaspora's endeavours and activities in order to better support Kurdistan's legitimate cause and bolster their lobbying efforts.

It is important to note that the Scottish Parliament will host a ceremony in June of this year to honour the Scottish Diaspora for all of their contributions to Scottish society and to support Kurdistan's legitimate cause.
