KRG High Representative welcomes a delegation from the Department for Defence

Karwan Jamal Tahir, KRG High Representative to the UK, welcomed Kashif Choudry, Head of the Middle East Team at the UK’s Department for Defence, Colonel Julian Salisbury, Deputy Head, Rhys Rowlands, Deputy Head for Levant and Miss Ruby Woollacott, Head of Iraq and Syria desk at the Department for Defence.

During the meeting, the recent developments in Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the wider ME were discussed. Karwan Jamal Tahir thanked the British government for all the support provided to Kurdistan Region, particularly during the fight against ISIS, and the UK’s vital role in modernising and reforming the Peshmarga ministry and training the Peshmarga forces. 

The need for the continuation of support for the Peshmarga  so that they are able to face current threats over the security and the peace of the wider region was reiterated. The KRG High Representative emphasised the importance of expanding bilateral relations between the KRG and UK to cover all the fields and sectors beyond just military and security fields. The need for continued friendship and mutual cooperation was agreed by both parties. 

The delegation expressed their gratitude for the enhancement of the relations between Erbil and Baghdad and reiterated their commitment to support and train Peshmarga forces.
