The Kurdistan Regional Government Representation celebrates International Women's Day

London, United Kingdom (uk.gov.krd), On 8th March, International Women's Day, Karwan Jamal Tahir, UK High Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and his wife Mrs Vian Sabir received a number of Kurdish women from various fields in the UK.

On this occasion, Mr Tahir warmly congratulated all women of the world and the Kurdistan Region, and he praised them for their significant role and achievements and stated, “it is your right to celebrate the achievements you have accomplished in the social, economic, cultural and political fields, for that we are honoured to celebrate these achievements together on this day.”

He also asserted that “The position of women and girls in the history of the Kurdish people and successive revolutions is bright and noticeable. They have played a significant role in the civil and social struggles, urban and mountain struggles. Women are constantly working to develop their position and role, and try to reduce the obstacles to their further development, while there is a continuous campaign to prevent violence against women and girls.”

In conclusion, the KRG representative said, ‘We can do more to build a society in which women have the opportunity to strengthen their position and create a society free from violence against women and girls.’
