Scotland, St Andrews House, www.uk.gov.krd. During a recent visit to Scotland, Karwan Jamal Tahir, the High Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), engaged in productive discussions with key Scottish government officials, including Ms. Shona Riach, Director of External Affairs, and Mr. George Burgess, Director of the Office of Agriculture.

The meeting emphasised the KRG’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with Scotland across various sectors, such as the economy, culture, renewable energy, infrastructure, technology, agriculture, industry, tourism, higher education, and cultural exchange. The High Representative highlighted the security stability of the Kurdistan Region, which fosters a conducive environment for foreign investment.

To further this collaboration, Mr. Tahir proposed the establishment of a joint economic and trade forum between Kurdistan and Scotland. This forum aims to provide a platform for companies and investors from both regions to share expertise, discuss trade policies, and explore potential partnerships.

Both directors expressed their enthusiasm for the discussions and voiced strong support for the proposed joint forum, recognising its potential to strengthen economic and trade relations. They underscored the importance of ongoing dialogue to refine policies and optimise opportunities for investors and businesses in both regions.

The KRG looks forward to fruitful cooperation with Scotland and the potential benefits it will bring to both regions.
