KRG High Representative Meets with Scottish Shadow Minister for External Affairs and Culture

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) High
Representative to the UK, Karwan Jamal Tahir, met
with Neil Bibby, Scottish Shadow Minister for Foreign
Affairs and Culture, to discuss strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region
and Scotland.
During the meeting, Representative Tahir
expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage in constructive
dialogue and provided an update on the latest political, economic,
and security developments in the Kurdistan
Region, Iraq, and the wider region. He also highlighted the constitutional
status of the Kurdistan Region, ongoing challenges
in Erbil-Baghdad relations, and economic
developments in the Kurdistan Region.
The discussion focused on expanding
bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including parliamentary
exchange programs, investment opportunities for Scottish businesses in
Kurdistan, and strengthening cultural and educational ties.
Representative Tahir also proposed the establishment of a Cross-party
Group at the Scottish Parliamentary for the Kurdistan Region, which would serve as a platform for fostering closer political and economic
collaboration.
Shadow Minister Neil Bibby welcomed the engagement and affirmed his party’s commitment to deepening ties
with the Kurdistan Region. He emphasised the importance of direct
international relations, particularly in the areas of economy
and trade, to drive mutual prosperity. He also expressed
readiness for further coordination with the KRG Representation in
the UK to explore new avenues for collaboration.
Both sides agreed on the importance
of maintaining regular communication and holding future meetings to define shared priorities and strengthen bilateral relations.
