United Kingdom, London, www.uk.gov.krd. Karwan Jamal Tahir, KRG High Representative to the United Kingdom, attended a Westminster Hall debate on KRI-UK relations. The High Representative extended his gratitude to Jack Lopresti MP, Chairman of the APPG for Kurdistan Region, for securing and leading the debate and motion.

This was an important cross-bench debate, attended by Ministerial representatives from the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, Leo Docherty MP, and Shadow Minister for the Middle East, Wayne David MP.

The debate covered the significant historical relationship between KRI-UK and the importance of continued bilateral relations; the dignities who took part were keen to debate the challenges facing the Kurdistan Region from external factors as well as internal tensions with Baghdad and what the UK can and should be doing in support.

As the wider region faces growing threats and coalition forces come under regular attack within KRI borders from Iranian-backed militias, as well as attacks on Kurdistan Region civilian targets, MP’s and Lords agreed on the importance of Western forces remaining in the country, with agreement from Baghdad.

It is reassuring that all those who took part in the Westminster Debate agree on the importance of further strengthening the ties between the two nations for mutual benefit and regional stability.
