The Kurdistan Regional Government Representation to the UK attends the annual conference of the Conservative Party

Kingdom (uk.gov.krd), A delegation from KRG Representation to the UK led by Karwan Jamal Tahir, KRG High Representative in the UK,
attended the Conservative Party's annual conference in Birmingham on October
2-5 October 2022.
Throughout the conference, High
representative Mr Tahir met with several MPs, Lords, conservative members and
councillors, reiterating the importance of the Kurdish community and the
Conservative party's relations. The KRG delegation also met with several
ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions and diplomats, discussing the events,
developments and bilateral ties between the Kurdistan Region and the
international community.
The delegation also attended the Conservative
Party Leader's speech, Prime Minister Rt Hon Liz Truss, who highlighted the
party's agenda and priorities for her government.
The Kurdistan Region's representation to the United Kingdom had a stand in the conference exhibition to highlight the level of cooperation between the KRG and the UK in the areas of political, security and social and economic developments, which attracted the attention of the all visitors, including the Rt Hon Nadhim Zahawi, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Foreign Secretary Rt Hon James Cleverley, International Trade Secretary Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch, University Affairs Minister Andrea JenkinsMP and the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Kurdistan Region, Alicia Kearns MP, and many other members of the Conservative Party, MPs, Lords, councillors, and members of the diplomatic corps.
The stand also included a team who have created, with the help of the UN, an immersive experience using Virtual Reality headsets as an educational tool to show and raise awareness of the plight of Yazidi and the horrors of the genocide under ISIS.
Attending the party conference is an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and deepen our ties on many fronts, and maintaining links with the political parties is crucial in sustaining a deep and broad engagement with MPs and activists.
On the sidelines of the conference, the KRG representation in the UK hosted a reception for conservative friends and diplomats to celebrate the strong bond between the Kurdistan Region and the Conservative party.
The reception began with a presentation of a
short video showcasing the economic and social development of the Kurdistan
Region and the beautiful nature of the Region, as well as the level of
bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom.
In a welcoming remark, high representative Karwan
Tahir paid tribute to the UK for continued support to the Kurdistan Region and
stressed the need to strengthen the relations between the two nations further.
The guest of honour, Alicia Kearns MP, Chair
of the APPG on Kurdistan Region, addressed the distinguished attendees, adding
"
Kurdish rights in the Iraqi constitution must
be fully protected", "We must build on the firm friendship that has
been developed over a generation", she added.
Further, she praised the role of the
Kurdistan Region in the fight against ISIS, stressing that freedom, democracy
and coexistence have become a successful example in the region, and encouraged
the participants to visit the Kurdistan Region to learn more about the Kurds
and Kurdistan.
During the reception, a short video was shown about the developments in Kurdistan Region and the strong bilateral relations and ties between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom.
